STEM at THE GARVOCK GOODLIFE CIC

STEM at The Garvock Goodlife is a Social Enterprise (Community Interest Company) passionate about increasing STEM engagement and enjoyment for youth in the local area.

We are based at Craig of Garvock Farm, in the heart of The Howe o’ The Mearns, between St Cyrus and Laurencekirk.

At The Garvock Goodlife we know Outdoor STEM has so many benefits for young people! Immersing young people in the outdoors allows them to connect to nature and understand the relevance of STEM and the environment in their own lives and futures. Outdoor learning is accessible for all, breaking down social divisions, building a stronger community. Learning is experiential, meeting the sensory requirements of those with additional support needs.

Meet Debs!

Debs Bicknell is a qualified and experienced Science teacher and holds a valid PVG certificate. She has taught in numerous schools and educational settings in the UK, as well as further afield in Denmark and the Seychelles. With a professional background in Meteorology and a depth of knowledge of the sciences, she is passionate about passing on the joy and wonder to be found for all age groups and abilities. Debs has worked within an SEN school and as an ASN teacher, so brings compassion, expertise and understanding for working with young people with additional needs.

In her spare time Debs enjoys walking, running, spending time at the beach, especially St Cyrus, and with her husband, two children, dogs, chickens and ducks on their small-holding.

Outdoor Cabin

A variety of Science equipment kept dry in the cabin, allowing a range of experiments to be completed, challenging and inspiring learning from age 2 up to 18.
